Pity Party FAQ

Where is the Pity Party?

This is a public website. We're not publicizing the location. It's being held outdoors on our lake at the Pavilion. If you want directions to where it is, contact Tim.

What time does the Pity Party start?

We're thinking between 6:30pm and 7pm. If you get there early and we're not done setting up, you can help.

Can I whine about the wine?

Sure, if you want to come across as juvenile. Everyone has thought of this. You're not original or clever, just a little pathetic if you make this joke.

Do I have to be vaccinated?

You already know the answer to this.  Yes, you should be vaccinated and you should be worried about going to events and sharing the air with others. We'll be mostly outdoors.

Will everyone else be vaccinated?

Don't know. Hope so.

Will you have glasses and ice?

We'll have ice. We'll have cups. If you like drinking out of a real glass, please bring your own.

What is Fado music?

It's traditional music from Portugal about going to sea, missing home, missing sailors who have gone to see, being sad and drunk and melancholy.

Why are you playing Fado music at the Pity Party?

Seemed appropriate and it's a fun word to say. It's different.  Tim went to a Fado concert once and enjoyed it. You may or may not like it.

What is cryin' ass country music?

Sigh... It is whinny, twangy music about being sad and drunk and melancholy. It is NOT upbeat, happy, skippy, positive country music that appropriates several different genres and is current and popular.

What is whinging?

Whinging is what they call whining in Britain. If you're an American, it can be fun to whinge in a fake British accent. If there are any Pommies or Aussies around, it can be annoying for them to listen to an American faking a British accent. If there are any other questions about this, please see the "sense of humor" item listed in "What to Bring".

What should I wear?

Whatever you want to wear. Clothes would be nice. Shoes too. No particular dress code. Wear a mask if you're worried about COVID. No judgement. Thongs are permitted.

Should I eat before I come?

If you're asking, yes. Otherwise bring some food with you to share. Everyone will appreciate it!

What Liquor Should I Bring?

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters...But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk.”  --Baudeliere

If you're bringing booze for yourself, it doesn't matter. If you're bringing to share, bring something decent or something surprising.

Should I bring a bottle of wine?

'It is the wine that leads me on, the wild wine that sets the wisest man to sing at the top of his lungs, laugh like a fool – it drives the man to dancing... it even tempts him to blurt out stories better never told.” -- Homer

Sure! Otherwise we have to drink whatever box wine is on sale. Again, bringing something decent or something surprising is always nice.
